5 Christmas Events to Enjoy This December

By David Housley

The Fall semester’s over and the holidays are fast approaching! With the temperatures finally dropping, now is the time for LakeHawks to experience the joys of Christmas. So, grab a coat, gather some friends and family, and enjoy these five holiday events this Christmas.

1.   Rusty Anchor Christmas Lights Boat Cruise, Mount Dora
Bundle up and join Rusty Anchor this holiday season as they cruise through Lake Dora. Passengers get to experience the beautiful light displays on the shores of Lake Dora on this hour-long boat ride. The tours run until December 30, and the boats depart at 6:00 PM and 7:30 pm.
The docks are located at 400 W. 4th Ave., Mount Dora. Contact the staff at 352-383-3933.

2.   45 Minute Christmas Lights CART Tour, Mount Dora
Rusty Anchor offers more than boat tours! The Mount Dora Transit brings passengers through the downtown area, with more than 2 million Christmas lights to see. If that’s not enough, there’s also a singing Christmas tree!
For information on this tour, contact the same number listed above.

3.   Light Up UCF, Orlando
From now until January 1, the University of Central Florida is hosting their annual holiday event, Light Up UCF. The event takes place at the CFE Arena and will include dazzling light shows, holiday films, plenty of rides, and an outdoor ice-skating rink.
For information about dates and prices, visit the CFE prices page.
The CFE Arena can be found at 12777 Gemini Blvd. N, Orlando.

4.    Deck the Downtown, Orlando
Throughout the entire month of December, the Downtown Orlando area will be full of Christmas lights, window paintings, and holiday window displays. Businesses in the area compete for cash prizes, so many of them go all-out with their displays! It’s completely free, and maps are provided.
Day or night, the decorations can be viewed at any time between 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 a.m. Just head to Downtown Orlando and start wherever.

5.   Holidays at Disney Springs, Kissimmee
Enjoy Disney’s holiday festivities for free at Disney Springs. Holidays at Disney Springs lasts until January 6, and cast members fill the marketplace with lights and decorations, along with free entertainment and live music. The best feature of this holiday event is the Christmas Tree Trail. The trail contains 27 Christmas trees, and each tree has a character inspired theme!
Disney Springs is open until 12:00 a.m. and is located at 1486 Buena Vista Dr.
